This is a rewritten and much better version of one of my original posts that appeared on this website. I wanted to rewrite this post to provide a much better version of my story and how it has lead me to creating this brand and how travel has become a big part of my life over the last 22 years.
I believe it is important for people like me who write about travel to share a brief overview of why we are into travel and the significance it has to use as writers.
The First Step
My travel story begins in Glasgow Airport in 2006 as I boarded a Flyglobespan (anyone else remember them?) flight bound for Prague to visit my dad who had moved there a few months before. Not only was this my first international flight, but it was my first ever time flying anywhere.
The First Solo Adventure
My first solo trip was an overnight stay in Belfast in 2021. I had initially booked a day trip with Aer Lingus from Glasgow to Belfast City, this was cancelled and I rebooked on an overnight itinerary from Edinburgh.
Although I had flown solo before between Scotland and Prague this was the first time that all elements of my trip would be done solo. I settled on Belfast as it was somewhere I had been before and it had alternative travel options should my flight be disrupted.
The Travel Bug Kicks In
I really began travelling in 2022 and the trip that made my realise how much I loved travelling was when I travelled solo across America in April 2022. This trip combined air and rail travel and saw me spend each night in a new city.
I was sitting on the empire builder eating a meal and talking to one of the staff who was curious to learn more about my trip that made me realise just how special travel can be and made me curious about what other experiences I would have in my life.
My First Travel Event
In November 2022 I attended my first travel event in London. World Travel Market 2022 gave me the opportunity to view travel in a different perspective, this time from a more brand and trade oriented perspective.
This event allowed me to learn more about destinations, travel brands and other travel writers and learn new content approaches, that is why I will be attending again this year.
Inspiring Others To Start Travelling
Thanks to my experiences travelling I have been able to use my platform to help inspire others to start travelling and enjoying themselves. By sharing my experiences and advice I have been able to answer peoples questions and make them feel better about themselves before they start travelling.
The Lessons Learned
Travel isn’t just about visiting new places, it’s about personal growth and learning. I’ve learned that uncertainty is not always a bad thing and that you learn the most about yourself when you are in difficult situations.
Furthermore, travel has shown the importance of different cultures and how a room full of people can have so many different views on the same situations and have different approaches and strategies to get out of it.
