Slovenia is one of the more underrated cities in Europe and is often overlooked by travellers. It’s capital, Ljubljana, is an ideal destination to visit at any time of the year, I visited in winter and the weather was ideal for walking around the city.

Below are some of the questions I had about Slovenia before visiting, and the answers I discovered whilst there.

Q: Is Slovenia Safe?

A: Yes, crime is low across the city, however, common sense should be used as petty crime still occurs.

Q: Is Slovenia Cheap?

A: Yes, Slovenia is a cheap country, with average travel costs of between £50 to £100 per day, this will change depending on when you visit and the type of accomodation you select.

Q: What is the best way to travel to Slovenia?

A: If you are travelling from a neighbouring country your best option is by coach. Ljubljana also has an airport, with flights to cities such as London, Frankfurt, Dubai and Istanbul.

Slovenia also has a good rail network, with some international services available to cities such as Zurich, Venice and Zagreb.

The train and bus station are combined to provide an integrated transport network, ideal for changing between the two modes of transport.

Q: How long should I stay in Slovenia?

A: I stayed three nights and found this was an ideal amount of time to explore the city.

Q: Where should I stay in Ljubljana?

A: I can recommend Best Western Premier Hotel Slon in the city centre. I have a review of this coming next week so stay tuned.

Q: What surprised me the most?

A: The friendliness of the locals. I needed help booking and collecting a bus ticket and was able to ask a stranger at the bus station for help.

Q: Is there a specific thing or place I need to prioritise?

A: I don’t think there is one thing you need to do or see. My only main suggestion is to walk up to the castle so you can get a good view of the city from above.

I have included some images blow to show some of the city, with a description under each as to what they are.

The red building is Palača Urbanc, located on Prešeren Square, it is a popluar tourist location and a good place to meet.

How did I travel to Ljubljana?

I arrived into Ljubljana airport having started my journey in Glasgow. No direct flights are available from Scotland you should still be able to find an itinerary with Lufthansa via Frankfurt.
