This is the final Scottish Market comparison post for the summer 22 and summer 2023 seasons. This particular post focuses on Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK). Owned by the Scottish Government it is the quietest of the three airports in the central belt. Ryanair is currently the only airline to serve the airport.
Unlike our previous posts on Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports this post will only contain European routes, as PIK is only host to flights to Europe, with no domestic, transatlantic or other regions served.
European Market Comparison

In summer 2022 PIK was home to 9 routes across 2 countries (Spain had 8 routes and Portugal had 1).
In summer 2023 PIK was home to 11 routes across 4 countries, thanks to the addition of Marseille, France and Pisa, Italy.
The table below highlights the changes on each route across both seasons, as well as any other notes which are relevant.
Destination | Summer 2022 | Summer 2023 | Changes | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Marseille | 0 | 16,152 | +16,152 | |
Pisa | 0 | 20,107 | +20,107 | |
Faro | 47,222 | 46,450 | -772 | |
Alicante | 61,876 | 63,144 | +1,268 | |
Barcelona | 36,288 | 32,628 | -3,660 | |
Gran Canaria | 19,373 | 21,676 | +2,303 | |
Lanzarote | 20,440 | 21,848 | +1,408 | |
Malaga | 50,919 | 53,362 | +53,362 | |
Murica | 20,111 | 21,549 | +21,549 | PIK Exclusive |
Palma | 57,779 | 63,649 | +63,649 | |
Tenerife | 63,975 | 65,853 | +65,853 |
Overall summer 2023 was a much stronger year for PIK than summer 2022, with a slight reduction in Faro passengers, and a higher drop on Barcelona. Despite this, growth on other routes, alongside the introduction of two new routes offset these losses, and meant that traffic through the airport increased by 48,435 passengers.
How Does Summer 2024 Look?
The negative news is that Ryanair have dropped flights to Marseille for S24.
The positive news is that three routes are seeing extra flights added;
- Alicante increases from 6 to 7 weekly from July
- Barcelona increases from 3 to 4 weekly
- Murcia increases from 2 to 3 weekly
- Tenerife increases from 6 to 7 weekly
These capacity increases means that despite the loss of a destination, weekly departures from the airport increase from 41 to 43.
